Eligibility Guidelines and Limitations
Valleylab has created the following guidance criteria to assist individuals
and organizations in determining their eligibility for funding under our
charitable contributions program. Valleylab’s intent is to fund
organizations that provide direct goods or services to those community
residents in need of basic necessities such as medical care, food, and
shelter.
ELIGIBILITY
- Applicant must be classified as 501(c)(3), or equivalent, by the
Internal Revenue Service.
- Valleylab does not consider grants to organizations that practice
discrimination of any kind.
- Only one request is considered for an organization during any 12-month
period.
RESTRICTIONS — Valleylab will not support the following:
- Faith-Based Organizations
Valleylab will not fund "inherently religious" activities.
This means that Valleylab will not authorize an organization to use
any part of a grant to fund religious worship, instruction, or proselytization.
Qualified organizations may use grants to support the non-religious
social services they provide. Therefore, faith-based organizations requesting
funds from Valleylab must separate, in time or location, their inherently
religious activities from the grant-funded services they offer. Such
organizations should also carefully account for their use of all grant
money. Some faith-based organizations set up separate charitable organizations
("501(c)(3) corporations") to keep programs that receive donations
separate from those that engage in inherently religious activities.
If, for example, your church receives federal money to help unemployed
people improve their job skills, you may conduct this program in a room
in the church hall.
- Personal Programs or Funding
Valleylab will not fund or make contributions on behalf of any one individual
or family. Additionally, Valleylab regrets we cannot fund ‘in
memoriam’ requests.
- School Activities, Teams, Individual Programs or Scholarships
Valleylab also regrets that we are unable to fund school programs, teams,
camps, and any related travel costs associated with such requests. An
example of an excluded request would be a local school that requests
funding to send a team of students to a regional competition.
- ‘athalons’ or Athletically-Based Fundraising
Events
In keeping with our desire to directly fund organizations which provide
critical need services within the community, we are also unable to fund
individuals who raise money for organizations through ‘athalons’
or other fundraisers which generate contributions through walk-athons,
etc.
- Service or Fraternal Organizations
In keeping with our desire to directly fund organizations that provide
critical need services within the community, we are unable to support
Lion’s Clubs, Shriners, or any other similar organization whose
primary function is not the delivery of goods or services.
- Valleylab reserves the right to turn down any application or deny
any grant for reasons that comply with company policy.

/ program will be implemented and will continue after the Valleylab
grant has been exhausted

GRANT AMOUNTS
Grant amounts vary considerably and depend on many factors. Some important
considerations include the applicant organization’s program budget,
the consistency of the program goals with Valleylab's annual focus, and
the amount of support the program is receiving from other sources. Organizations
should submit proposals requesting a reasonable amount of financial support
for efforts that most closely match Valleylab priorities. Valleylab is
rarely the sole funder of a project and encourages applicants to develop
a variety of individual, government and private funding sources for projects.
DEADLINES AND RESPONSE TIME
- Grant applications must be postmarked by December 15, 2006 for the
2007 fiscal year grant period
- Valleylab will try to acknowledge, by email, receipt of all proposals
within 10 days
NOTIFICATION
- Applicants will be notified by email of all grant decisions (no phone
calls please).
- If a grant is awarded, a notification letter of acceptance will be
sent to the selected recipients.
- Valleylab respectfully requests that all press releases be cleared
with Valleylab prior to distribution.
